The specificity of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in reducing coronary vascular resistance: A comparison with adenosine.

Experiments were performed on the isolated, electrically driven guinea-pig heart, perfused at constant rate. All animals were pretreated with reserpine. Myocardial contractile force (MCF), coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) and myocardial oxygen consumption (QO2) were monitored continuously. Both adenosine (ADO) and PGE2 produced a concentration-dependent decrease in the CPP. The ED50 (50% of maximum response) was 2.1 +/- 0.6 X 10(-9)M for PGE2 but 40 +/- 7 X 10(-9)M for ADO (P less than 0.01) at 1.8 mM Ca(e). Abstract The kinetics of growth of anodic oxide films on niobium has been investigated by interferometric methods. Tensiodynamic experiments allow the growth of the films at constant rate. Photoeffects during the growth of the films under absorbed light give additional information on the growth process.

Background light in potential sites for the ANTARES undersea neutrino telescope

The ANTARES collaboration has performed a series of {\em in situ} measurements to study the background light for a planned undersea neutrino telescope. Such background can be caused by $^{40}$K decays or by biological activity. We report on measurements at two sites in the Mediterranean Sea at depths of 2400~m and 2700~m, respectively. Three photomultiplier tubes were used to measure single counting rates and coincidence rates for pairs of tubes at various distances. Deceleration in the Expansion of SN 1993J

1997

A rarity among supernova, SN 1993J in M81 can be studied with high spatial resolution. Its radio power and distance permit VLBI observations to monitor the expansion of its angular structure. This radio structure was previously revealed to be shell-like and to be undergoing a self-similar expansion at a constant rate. From VLBI observations at the wavelengths of 3.6 and 6 cm in the period 6 to 42 months after explosion, we have discovered that the expansion is decelerating. Our measurement of this deceleration yields estimates of the density profiles of the supernova ejecta and circumstellar material in standard supernova explosion models.

Roughening of a propagating planar crack front

A numerical model of the front of a planar crack propagating between two connected elastic plates is investigated. The plates are modeled as square lattices of elastic beams. The plates are connected by similar but breakable beams with a randomly varying stiffness. The crack is driven by pulling both plates at one end in Mode I at a constant rate. We find $\ensuremath{\zeta}=1/3, z=4/3,$ and $\ensuremath{\beta}=1/4$ for the roughness, dynamical, and growth exponents, respectively, that describe the front behavior. The impact of Pleurotus ostreatus on organic matter transformation processes.

This study showed the effect of Pleurotus ostreatus on the external organic matter (OM) transformation processes. The kinetics of these changes were determined. The experiment was conducted as 42-day pot experiment done in four combinations (with four replications). The four combinations of different substrates were: (1) organic, (2) composted hay, (3) organic soil + composted hay, (4) organic soil + composted hay + lead. The study results showed that P. ostreatus had the ability to transform external OM as well as metal–organic complexes.
